October 15, 2024 - Palladium Times Square in NYC was electric as three iconic bands, Agnostic Front, Obituary, and Sepultura, tore through the stage as part of the "Celebrating Life Through Death" tour. The lineup was a potent mix of hardcore, death metal, and thrash, with each band pushing the crowd into deeper levels of intensity. Here’s how the night unfolded:

Agnostic Front

Opening the evening was New York City’s own hardcore legends, Agnostic Front. They’ve been a driving force in the punk scene since the early '80s, and their energy was infectious from the first note. Agnostic Front didn’t waste a second, packing a punch with aggressive riffs and Roger Miret's signature bark, charging through their set with intensity.

Their performance was a homage to their storied career, from classics to newer cuts, and there was a communal energy at their show—songs that had the crowd screaming along, fists pumping in unison. Agnostic Front continues to be a beacon of hardcore's raw energy and unity, setting the perfect chaotic tone for the night.

Obituary

Next up was Florida's death metal veterans, Obituary. Known for their slow, crushing sound and doom-laden growls, they brought a brutal edge to the night. Opening with an instrumental that set the mood, they followed it with a punishing series of songs that kept the audience locked in a sonic stranglehold.

The blend of old-school classics with newer material was a testament to their ability to evolve without losing the essence of their sound. A Celtic Frost cover and a surprise performance of Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" added a twist to the carnage, leaving the audience awestruck and battered in the best way possible.

Sepultura

Closing the night was the Brazilian thrash titans Sepultura, whose impact on metal stretches far beyond their South American roots. Celebrating their Quadra album, the band blended newer material with the old, delivering a set that was both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Opening with fan-favorite classics, they instantly sent the crowd into a frenzy. Derrick Green’s towering presence and Andreas Kisser’s razor-sharp riffs were a sight to behold, especially on heavier cuts.

Sepultura dug deep into their catalog with fan favorites but also left room for surprises. A percussion-heavy number featuring guest drummers added a tribal intensity that few bands can replicate. Closing out with their iconic hit was a cathartic moment for both the band and the audience, blending Brazilian rhythms with bone-crushing metal. As a bonus, they threw in a short but wildly fun cover of a pop hit, showing their playful side before sending everyone home bruised but exhilarated.
